TD Sunfest is a Year-Round Party
Each July, more than 200,000 music lovers of all ages flock to TD Sunfest in London Ontario’s Victoria Park. This four-day outdoor feast of music, dance and food is one of the most established and influential world music festivals in Canada. Ontarians are fortunate to be able to enjoy the discoveries made by artistic director Alfredo Caxaj and his programming team as they attend top music markets around the globe.
Last year the musical riches included Bixiga 70 (Brazil), Dakha Brakha (Ukraine), Delgres (US) and Chouk Bwa Libete (Haiti) as well as Canadian contributions from The Jerry Cans, Kellylee Evans and Souljazz Orchestra.
With summer still many months away, Sunfest gives London-area salsa fans a treat to help keep their spirits up until the warm weather returns. As part of their year-round world and jazz series, Sunfest presents one of Lula Lounge’s most popular Cuban groups, Café Cubano at the London Music Hall on Saturday January 27th.
Led by pianist Jorge Betancourt and featuring vocalists Angel Luis Marquez and Pablosky Rosales (also on tres) backed by a rhythm section that includes Ernesto Vizcaino (congas), Roberto Riveron (bass) and Arys Montengro (percussion), Café Cubano boasts members who have recorded and toured with the likes of Sierra Maestra, Klimax and Cubanismo.
Performing primarily original compositions, Café Cubano is known for its high-energy performances that fuse salsa, timba, jazz and funk to create one of the most danceable Latin sounds to be found anywhere, in or outside of Cuba. Tickets are up for sale.
