Working with an array of renowned artists, Brenda Navarrete has made her mark as an accomplished singer, percussionist, composer and arranger.
Brenda has set her sights on percussion and a career in music since the age of 9, graduating from from Cuba’s prestigious Amadeo Roldán Music Conservatory. Her resume reveals a non-stop musical journey of interactions with Cuba’s music elite, including the Afro-Cuban percussion troupe, Obini Bata, Jazz musician Joaquin Betancourt, Alain Perez, Munir Hossn and as a singer with the internationally acclaimed band Interactivo, led by Roberto Carcasses.
Brenda’s solo project has included television and radio broadcasts of her live performances, as well as tours in Canada and the United States. She is a frequent guest at Cuba’s most important events, including Havana World Music, La Fiesta del Tambor, Habanos, FIHAV and La Feria Internacional del Libro de la Habana.
Her debut CD will be released on ALMA Records and she will next perform in Toronto as part of the Women in Percussion Festival that runs Oct 11 to 15 at Lula Lounge.
